Welcome aboard!
The 1st of March 2007 was the date a lot of whisky enthusiasts took a fantastic opportunity to experience something that they usually can experience on distillery visits only. The Famous Cruise took over the Baltic Sea together with half of Scotland, exciting rarities for the duty free shop, an exclusive auction and food specially composed for the event inspired by whisky. The boat Silja Festival left for Åbo/Turku from Värtahamnen in Stockholm on the 1st of March and got back 23 hours later. Below you find pictures from the trip.
During the cruise tastings and seminars will be held, both more advanced and for beginners. There will also be The Famous Grouse Master Class and an exclusive seminar/tasting of The Macallan Fine & Rare. All tastings will be held by Scots who have dedicated their lives to whisky and Scotland's only Master of Wood will attend the cruise. This will be an excellent opportunity to meet and listen to people from The Famous Grouse, The Macallan and Highland Park distilleries and the world famous whisky journalist Jim Murray.
What's happening?
Included in the price, apart from a share in a cabin, is the Famous Grouse Master Class, buffet dinner on Thursday evening with starters especially prepared for this cruise and combined with suitable whisky. For those who want to learn even more about whisky, there are several other seminars and tastings to attend in smaller groups, which can be booked onboard. All the seminars are held by experts from Scotland.
The Famous Grouse Master Class
The Famous Grouse Master Class is more than a simple tasting of whisky. It is an experience which will teach you about all the different variables that create The Famous Grouse and make it Scotland's favourite whisky. Paul Ross, Area Director, Nordic, Central and Eastern Europe, will guide us through the wonderful world of whisky and will give a basic yet complex run-through of whisky making before the other experts tell us about their specific areas of expertise sprinkled with anecdotes and fun facts. The tasting includes various whiskies from The Famous Grouse, The Macallan and Highland Park.
Time: approximately 1½ hour.
Whisky and Food
Whisky during dinner instead of before or after is something new for many people even though Swedes are used to have snaps with food at Midsummer or Christmas. Steven Craik, head chef at The Famous Grouse Experience, will present three starters at the buffet dinner that are created to fit perfectly with whisky. Steven will be present during the cruise to present his views on whisky and food.
Jim Murray - The Macallan tasting
Jim Murray is one of the world's most famous independent whisky journalists and the whiskies he hasn't tried are few. Most of the ones he has tried though feature in his book "the Whisky Bible". Jim Murray will host two seminars combined with a tasting of The Macallan where you have the possibility to ask questions about his work or/and The Macallan whisky. Please note that the number of attendants is limited to 50 persons/seminar. Time: approximately 1½ hour. Cost: 220 sek.

Please note that the number of attendants is limited to 50 persons/seminar. Time: approximately 1½ hour. Cost: 150 sek.
